Over the past ten years, the open-source operating system “Android,” created by Google, has been sweeping the globe. It is currently the most widely used mobile operating system worldwide and is mainly found in tablets and smartphones. Users can pinch, swipe, or tap the touch screen of the Linux-based software to get the desired responses from the phone. Furthermore, voice commands have also been integrated into the system of newer Android phones.

Numerous significant mobile manufacturing companies, including Samsung, Motorola, and others, have chosen to use Android as their primary operating system due to the system’s extensive customization capabilities.

The development of Android dates back to 2003, when Andy Rubin created the operating system. Nick Sears and Chris White were also co-developers with a strong connection to T-Mobile. Android was initially thought to be a futile attempt. Andy Rubin received $10,000 after pleading with Steve Perlman to keep the company from going bankrupt. The true miracle occurred when Google co-founder Larry Page reached out to Andy Rubin to offer “assistance.” The Android prototype impressed the Google team, and 45 days later, Google purchased Android for $50 million.

The Android team relocated to Google corporations and continued to develop the system until it was released by HTC in 2008. Android has since exploded globally, with a net worth of $2 billion. Since then, several version updates have been made available to users, the most recent of which is Android 7 Noughat.

Android features: There are several Android features that have impressed customers:

i) NFC (Near field communication) is a high frequency wireless technology that allows data to be exchanged between Android devices in close proximity. Because of the close range, it provides more security than Bluetooth connectivity. NFCs can enable device-to-device transactions and eliminate the need for cash or credit cards.

ii) By displaying a mini-version of an app on the home-screen, widgets eliminate the need to open it from the menu.

iii) For Android users, super customizable wallpaper and home screens are also available, including live wallpapers, alternate themes, and other content that can be downloaded from the app store or the internet.

iv) Google Play Store is the world’s leading application download store, with over 1 million applications that can be installed into the phone and are available for purchase or free download.

v) Storage Expansion and Battery Replacement are Android features that most iOS users desire. Android phones allow users to upgrade their batteries when they no longer hold a charge. SD card slots can be used to increase storage capacity.

vi) Android devices support multiple keyboards, including Swype, Swiftkey, and the standard Google keyboard. This feature allows users to adjust and select which keyboard is best suited to them and their phone. All of these intelligent keyboards are highly customizable and easily accessible.

Through its updated versions, immediate bug fixes, and innovative application database, the Android operating system has consistently made an impact on the tech world. It not only defeated all of the major operating systems of the time, but it also revolutionized global mobile technology. Its user-friendly implementation has indeed made everyday life easier.
